To mark the 25th anniversary of Aids-Hilfe Frankfurt, McCann Frankfurt wrote a song – and we turned it into a four-and-a-half-minute mini musical. Frankfurt drag icon Bäppi La Belle leads the audience as master of ceremonies through a colourful parade of worlds – a candy fairground, a dreamlike garden, the clouds and a glittering casino boulevard – accompanied by a troupe of dancers.
Everyone involved worked pro bono. Together with co-director Christoph Hessenberg, we assembled the full team, cast the dancers and rehearsed the choreography with Paula Rosolen over several weeks, before shooting everything in a single studio day. What followed were countless hours of detailed visual effects and animation – a project from the days before GPU rendering, driven by the ambition to create something truly special for this anniversary.
The film premiered in June 2011 at Frankfurt's Orfeo's Erben cinema. Rather than relying on fear, it encourages responsible behaviour with wit and colour.
